Cortana is Now on Android in the UK
Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant, has been available on Android and iOS in the USA and China for a year. However, it was not possible to find it in the UK until now, so it is good news for everyone who wants to see the voice-based assistant in other platforms: Cortana is now available on Android devices and, in a few weeks, it will also be available on iOS.
It is important to note that the software has undergone a makeover before being launched in the UK. The colour purple is very much a strong feature of the software, and there is a brand-new section called ‘Quick Actions’ that allows users to quickly see information about meetings, weather, reminders, and more.
The Cortana app that is now available to download for UK users also features a simple layout that places a strong emphasis on the search bar, but it remains virtually the same as its Windows 10 counterpart. You will be able to find the same basic functions, although the non-voice functionality is more prominent in the app.
Cortana is synced across all Microsoft devices, so if you already use it on your PC, Xbox One or Microsoft phone, it makes sense to use it in your mobile as well. After all, the software will allow you to share information between devices with ease.
Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa are already incredibly popular digital assistants, so it will be interesting to see whether Cortana can partake in that popularity as well. iPhone users will be able to enjoy the app in a few weeks’ time but, for now, only Android users can benefit from Cortana’s functionalities.
