Amazon Prime Gets Foody with a New Delivery App
As we all know, the Amazon prime app is famous for its super speedy delivery of books, TV and a mass of other products. However, Amazon has recently expanded its delivery horizons and has started to challenge the likes of the apps JustEat and deliveroo by delivering restaurant meals.
Amazons Restaurant delivery service app allows customers in certain London postcodes to order food from a selection of restaurants which will then be delivered to the customer within the hour for a subscription fee of £79 per year and offers unlimited one day delivery along with other features such as free music as part of the Amazon prime package.
There are over 100 restaurants listed by Amazon as part of the app, many of which are large operators including the Michelin starred restaurant Benares which is based in Mayfair and will more than likely cost a lot more than your average take away!
It is thought that Amazons introduction to the food delivery market may shake up the market due to amazon having access the capital and technology needed to grab business in a growing market. This new competition in the market is seen to be a threat to current App market leaders Justeat and Deliveroo who have been on the market since 2013 but they offer slightly faster delivery times than the claims of Amazon which could give them there USP when combating the competition of Amazon.
In a recent press statement, Amazon said ‘ Based on our own research into what is important to customers in food delivery, our team have hand picked a selection of the best quality local restaurants in London’. Although Amazon isn’t offering a normal cheap chippy take away delivery service, due to the class and quality of the restaurants involved, I can only think that in a city like London, it can only be a success due to the fast delivery times fitting into people’s busy lives and not to mention the increased capital many residents of London have which will allow them to enjoy the luxuries that Amazon food delivery can offer such as Michelin star restaurant take aways.
