Meet BPE
Bimson Power Group are a UK power equipment company, the people behind a lot of the generators, winches and tools that get used by trade and retail customers across the UK, Europe and North America. They are both a distributor and a brand owner, working with well-known names like Champion and Warrior while also selling through their own platforms and reseller network.
Twenty-odd years in, they are still very much a family business at heart: reliable kit, good service, and relationships that last. The sort of client we like.
The challenge: a new home, but not for the servers
BPE were moving to a new site. Good news for the business, less good news for the IT, because the new location did not have the connectivity or the capacity to host their servers and network properly. Asking a building to babysit a server room it was never built for is how you end up with downtime nobody enjoys.
So rather than force the kit into a space that could not support it, we suggested a different approach: move the servers and the core network stack out of the office entirely and into a data centre. Better redundancy, better security, and a far more resilient home overall. The office still gets everything it needs, it just connects to a stable, high-performance environment where the servers and virtual services live centrally, instead of humming away in a cupboard down the corridor.
The execution: a Friday, a Saturday, and some very heavy boxes
We ran the whole migration across Friday and Saturday, on purpose, so BPE could come in on Monday to a working setup rather than a building site.
On the Friday, every server was backed up and safely shut down, and the network configuration was documented and secured. Boring, careful, essential work. The kind you are very glad someone did when something needs putting back.
On the Saturday, we were on site to decommission the equipment, take it out of the cabinet, and rack the servers and switches into Q2Q’s rather smart heavy-duty transport cases for the trip from Wigan to Manchester. Once we reached the data centre, everything was unloaded, installed into the racks, and fully reconnected. We then ran internal and external connectivity testing end to end, confirming every system was reachable and that BPE’s services were fully up and running from their new home.
The payoff
BPE now sit on a much more stable and power-resilient setup. Reliable connectivity, stronger security, proper redundancy, and a lot less risk than hosting servers on site. In plain terms: less chance of downtime, easier to manage, and the flexibility to scale as the business grows. A solid foundation, doing exactly what a foundation should, which is quietly holding everything up while nobody has to think about it.
A word from the crew
You don’t know what heavy is until you have transported servers and switches in a secure heavy-duty transport case.
Proper job. Sore arms, happy client.
